Is Etsy turning into eBay? Some sellers are starting to wonder about this because of their recent decision to use a new seller rating system. This system is called “Customer Service Stats.” While Etsy has tried to calm sellers fears by telling them that the rating system is not public and is simply a way for sellers to monitor how well they’re doing, many sellers remain unconvinced.
As comments quickly spread across Etsy discussion boards and Forums, Stephen from Etsy Support released a video to calm sellers’ fears. This video explains exactly how the rating system works and gives the five criteria that Etsy is providing ratings for:
- Responding Quickly to Buyer Convos;
- Providing Processing Times;
- Meeting Your Processing Times;
- Marking Items as Shipped;
- Providing Tracking Info – US only
eBay All Over Again?
Does this sound familiar? If you have experience selling on eBay, those pesky litte DSRs or star ratings probably come to mind. If so, you’re not alone in your thinking. While some people believe that Etsy is planning to use the ratings to keep sellers in line, others are convinced that it is only a matter of time before Etsy decides to make the ratings public.
This is not the only problem with the new system. Some sellers are worried because it has some flaws. As an example, if you use a third-party vendor, such as Shipstation, there is no way for Etsy to notate the information they send. This means that when Shipstation sends Etsy tracking information for a shipment, Etsy doesn’t recognize it.While this may worry sellers, Etsy has said that they are aware of the problem and are already working on a way to correct it. So far, however, this has not calmed sellers’ fears. Still, most are saying they will take a “wait and see” approach.
What are YOUR Customer Service Stats?
Meanwhile, if you haven’t checked them already and want to see how your Customer Service Stats fare, you can do so by logging into Etsy and going to “Your Shop.” Click on “Customer Service Stats” over on the left under “Orders.” There, you can see how you are doing. If you need help determining how the ratings are calculated, you can read about it here.
Etsy Seller Responses
New seller Corinna Stevenson says, ” I have only just started listing and have only bought one thing. I saw that they were adding ratings and just figured they were following suit with other platforms.” (Visit Corrina’s store on Etsy.)
We’ve seen reactions on the Etsy forums from “meh” all the way to outrage. What do you think about Etsy’s new stats? Do you worry they’ll be made public? Or do you think this is a challenge to step up your Etsy game?
