Dok-It like it’s hot … or lost in disaster

It’s not something we may think about much, but it really came to light during this recent tornado outbreak – what happens when your home office or brick-and-mortar business is completely lost to disaster? I don’t know about you, but I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about the inventory of my belongings or filing claims in the case of a total loss. Luckily I wouldn’t have to if I used Dok-It.

The program is a highly encrypted way to store an inventory of your belongings online. In the event that your item is lost or stolen, you can use the program to create a report for the insurance and/or investigating officer. The service costs $39.95 a year.

Also accessible from PDAs, Dok-It enables you to immediately take action on your lost items in the event of natural disaster or theft. The reports generated from Dok-It can ensure compensation for your items or increase the likelihood that they are found. The inventory also helps ensure you aren’t overpaying for insurance coverage. On that same not, recovering lost items also helps keep your insurance premiums low. Unlike video inventories, which don’t include detailed item information, and spreadsheets, which can’t contain images, Dok-It combines all of these features in a simple, safe program that can be accessed from anywhere online.

  • 3tier Strategy CEO Perry Johnson explains why he thinks Dok-It is such a big deal, using the example of his brother involved in a burglary: “While they had insurance, the task of going through the whole claim process, finding receipts, pictures, and all other related info they needed, turned out to be almost more horrifying and crushing than the burglary itself.”
