Small Business News of the Week

Looking for a little break next year during tax season? The time to start worrying about it is now instead of after the clock strikes midnight signaling 2013 has arrived!

Paychex has identified 5 tax benefits every small business owner should consider implementing before the new year hits. With the fiscal cliff and health insurance talks ramping up, 2013 looks to be an interesting if not potentially stressful year for small business owners. Taking advantage of these benefits could reduce some of this stress.

Besides the expected “buy these certain things and offer health insurance” mentions, there’s the Work Opportunity Tax Credit. This credit is scheduled to expire at the end of 2012, which is a shame as it helps veterans everywhere find good work. This is a great way to help your community and save a little dough in the process.

Outright Pro Tip: Not the End of the World

Well, today’s the day we find out if the end of the world takes place. Everyone has been waiting for this moment for decades if even in just morbid curiosity. Now that it’s finally here, expect quiet resignation that it was just another boring day.

However, you can’t entirely blame those who really bought into the Mayan 2012 Apocalypse. Sometimes you feel like things are so bad that the world is ending and there’s nothing you can do about it. Many business owners feel this way every single day, especially when they’ve had a hard day/week/month/year.

Sometimes they’re correct – there isn’t anything they can do. But in the vast majority of cases a business can be saved. Sure, it may take a ton of work and some incredible luck and as well as ingenuity, but just because the chips are down doesn’t mean they’re gone forever!

Many people’s reaction during extreme stress is to shut down and hide away. Instead, take your business woes to your friends, colleagues, and family! Reaching out for help isn’t a bad thing and could lead to some surprising revelations on how you can save your company.

That’s it for this week’s Round-Up! Have a Merry Christmas!
