Tax Watch
The 1099s are all out and you more than likely already have your 1099-K in your possession. Now what? Do you do your taxes yourself, or do you go with a tax preparation service?
I actually got a call the other day from the company I went with last year asking if I was coming back. Since my taxes are much easier this year (last year was crazy!) I’m going to stick with my Outright account and plain ol’ pen and paper. And honestly it’s a wise decision, as tax services can often charge quite a bit of money. If you’re expecting a big return, it could be significantly diminished.
However, if things get too complicated, don’t be afraid to call an audible and bring in some help. Messing up your taxes is never a good idea! Also, remember that we’re here if you need some quick assistance – check out our Tax Resource Center!

Small Business News of the Week
Are you ready for some footb…wait, I guess we can’t say that anymore since Hank Jr. pulled that song. Well anyway, the Superbowl is in just two days! Whether or not you like football, this weekend is definitely time for some businesses to make a lot of money off the big game.
One big winner? Small businesses! And not just in Indianapolis. Mom & Pop businesses everywhere are making their mark when it comes to big events like the Super Bowl by driving traffic their way with memorabilia and original offers. While the bigger chains typically stick to the more basic t-shirts and keychains, small businesses can take risks and try new things. What events in your area can you take advantage of?
Outright Pro Tip of the Week
“How is it already February?” Many of us found ourselves wondering just this very thing this week as suddenly an entire month had gone by since ringing in the new year.
If you regularly find that time gets away from you, perhaps you need some better time management skills. Time management may seem like a bother, but proper scheduling can actually free up loads of time during your day.
Locate some of the real time crunchers in your day to day and figure out how you can dwindle them to the bare minimum. Try to schedule them during a time when you feel you really “cook” so you can blow through that stuff to get to the meat of your business. And last but not least, utilize technology to its fullest! Add times and dates to your Google or other calendar to keep you on track.
That’s all for today’s Outright Weekly Round Up. See you next week, and don’t forget to join us on Wednesday for an Online Lab all about the 1099K and other tax issues!
