Cloud this, cloud that. That seems to be all we hear about these days. If you’re like me, it was Greek at first. Now I think we can all agree it’s a cool place to store a bunch of different things in one virtual space. And that’s exactly what you’ll get from GoBox, plus some goodies for app developers. Unveiled at SXSW by GoIP Global, Inc. and affiliate Add-On Exchange, GoBox is run by API management service Mashery.
What is it?
Anything you see on the web or that lives on your computer can be loaded to your GoBox “cloud.” GoBox is available as a web-based app and a Firefox- and IE-friendly browser tool for computers, and it’s available for Apple and Android mobile devices. Drag and drop, upload, screen-grab … there’s a lot of ways to do this.
The app also offers tools for web developers. As ProgrammableWeb.com explains GoBox: “Developers can use the GoBox API to enhance mobile, desktop and web applications with online file browsing, synchronization, backup, and sharing features.”
The API also offers ways for developers to monetize their apps.
“The timing for GoBox is right,” said John Rafuse, CEO of Add-On Exchange in a recent press release. “Historically if your application searched, the developer would get paid. Now if the application saves or loads GoBox, the developers get paid.”
GoBox has several features not found in Dropbox and Google Docs, including multi-variable sharing, right-click cloud save, in-browser drag and drop, in-browser multi-selection, and in-browser screen shot. While Dropbox and Google Docs offer 2 GB and 1GB of space respectively, GoBox offers 20 GB of space for free.
If you’re looking for a boatload of cloud space and/or you’re a developer, this app’s for you. Take advantage of it now – it’s 20 GB of free storage for all your file and media needs.
